Is Hypnosis Safe?

Hypnosis is a very natural state. Every human being experiences some kind of hypnosis throughout the day, everyday. Have you ever noticed that sometimes when you are driving, your mind is so focused on other things that you weren't actually sure if that light you just drove through was red? Or maybe you missed your exit or turn? Hypnosis is simply an altered state of awareness.

Will I lose control over my actions?

Using the example above, even though you weren't aware of your exit, you were still capable of driving the car. Hypnosis is just an altered state of consciousness that allows focused attention on one thing versus another. Similar to having a conversation with a small group of people, while there are a hundred other people in the same room. You decide when to listen and what to listen to. You are always in control!

Can you get "stuck" in Hypnosis?

Everyone comes out of hypnosis! As stated before, hypnosis is simply a state of relaxation. At some point you allowed yourself to relax enough to enter, and at some point you will also allow yourself to exit. You're always in control.

How effective is Hypnosis?

Alfred A. Barrios, Ph.D. reviewed the overall lasting success of various psychological approaches. This study revealed the following success rates:

  • Hypnotherapy — 93% success rate after 6 sessions

  • Behavior Therapy — 72% success rate after 22 sessions

  • Psychotherapy — 38% success rate after 600 sessions”
